Leap Frog Wiki

Leaps Phonics Library is a toy introduced in 2003 by LeapFrog.

It takes four AA batteries.

In this toy, the vowels are on the yellow books and the consonants are on the green books.

Characters[]

Modes[]

The slider is Edison.

  • Off: This turns off the phonics toy. When chosen, the toy says, "Bye for now!". Leap's Phonics Library has an automatic shut-off feature to help prolong battery life. After a brief period of inactivity, the toy prompts the player for a response. If the player doesn't respond by pressing a button, the toy repeats the prompt or asks again. If there is still no activity, the unit then automatically powers down, and the toy says "Bye for now!". Pressing any letter button or selecting a different activity can then restart the toy.
  • Letters (ABC): Press a letter to hear its name.
  • Quiz (A?C): Asks the player to find a certain letter.
  • Phonics: Press a letter to hear its sound.
  • Phonics Quiz: Will ask the player to find the letter that makes its sound.
  • Spelling: Will ask the player to make a word by pressing letters.
  • Make A Word: Press three letters to make your own word.
  • Music: Press a letter to play a song.

Trivia[]

  • The toy will not say curse words or "axe", except for "hoe" and "gay." However, "axe" is in the word dictionary, although it is unused.
  • For names, and the words "non", "god", "quo", "dub", "apt" and "sin", it will make the sounds then say "great word!"
  • For quizzes and spelling, the three stars on the side will light up for every right answer. The big star has three LEDs.
    • When the player gets three right answers, the big star will cycle red, yellow, and green very fast, then stop at yellow (or sometimes red). It will also say "Wow! You got three right answers! Let's read some more books." when you earn three in a row.
  • A repeat button is on the bottom on a bench, to repeat the question said.
  • This is another toy to use the Leap-font musical sound-banks. However, they are sample-based, and only two instruments play at the same time and only use the xylophone, acoustic guitar, flute, and clarinet samples.
    • The music arrangements are slightly modified, with a clarinet replacing the tuba. Row, Row, Row Your Boat is now in a round style.
  • The low battery honk from the LeapPad is programmed into the toy, and likely plays when the batteries are low. There is also an alarm clock ringing sound, but it is unused.
  • This is like an upgraded "Leap's Phonics Pond."
