Leap Frog Wiki

Leap's Phonics Pond is a phonics toy by LeapFrog Enterprises, introduced in 2000.

In this toy, the 5 green frogs have red vowel buttons and the 21 purple fish have yellow consonant buttons and jumping fish that light up.

Characters[]

Modes[]

  • Off - This turns off the toy. Leap’s Phonics Pond has an automatic shut-off feature to help prolong battery life. After a brief period of inactivity, the toy prompts the player for a response. If the player doesn't respond by pressing a button, the toy repeats the prompt or asks another prompt. If there is still no activity, the unit then automatically powers down and says “Bye for now.” Pressing any letter button or changing modes can then restart this phonics toy.
  • Letter Names - Touch a letter to hear its name.
  • Find (Names) - This mode allows you to find any letter name. If the correct letter is pressed the unit responds with enthusiastic congratulations such as "Great job!", "Wow!", "You did it!", or "Awesome!". If the incorrect letter is pressed, the unit plays a random sound effect and the player is given several attempts to correctly respond. If the player doesn't respond to a prompt with a button press, the unit then repeats the prompt. If there is still no action taken by the player, then the prompt will be repeated again.
  • Letter Sounds - Touch a letter to hear its sound.
  • Find (Sounds) - This mode allows you to find any letter sound.
  • Spelling - The mode allows you to spell words that only Leap will know. If the correct letter is pressed the unit responds with an enthusiastic congratulations such as "Great job!", "Wow!", "You did it!", or "Awesome!". If the incorrect letter is pressed, the unit plays a random sound effect and the player is given several attempts to correctly respond. If the player doesn't respond to a prompt with a button press, the unit then repeats the prompt. If there is still no action taken by the player, then the prompt will be repeated again.
  • Own Spelling - Touch 3 letters to make a word that only you will know. If the word is said by Leap the unit responds with enthusiastic congratulations such as "Great job!", "Wow!", "You did it!", or "Awesome!". If Leap says the sounds of the letters that don't spell a word, the unit plays a random sound effect and Leap says, "Great sounds! Try again.". If the player doesn't respond to a prompt with a button press, the unit then repeats the prompt. If there is still no action taken by the player, then the prompt will be repeated again.
  • Music - Touch a letter to hear a song.
