Word Whammer is a toy introduced on May 3, 2004 by LeapFrog Enterprises. It is designed for children to spell out three-letter words. It includes 32 magnets of the 26 letters of the alphabet, plus six bonus magnets of the letters D, E, G, M, O and P, allowing the user to spell out words like “MOM” and “DAD”.

Appearance[]

It is a blue toy with a red handle, a green panel, three letter slots, three red lights above the letter slots that light up when you put a letter in them, a red song button, a mode selector switch, and a yellow volume slider.

Characters[]

Main Modes[]

Letter Hunt[]

The letters all have lines on the bottom so the Word Whammer can know what letter was inserted. Place a letter and it will say it's name and it's sounds. It can also do examples of each letter they make referencing The Letter Factory.

Word Builder[]

Put 3 letters into the Word Whammer. They also offer you to put a red letter in the middle that's a vowel. After all 3 letters are inserted into the Word Whammer, It asks you to press the letters with the blinking lights in order and it spells the word. If the user spells out an inappropriate word (such as “FUK”, “DAM”, “SEX”, etc), it does not say these words (it only says letter names). But it accepts the word "GAY" due to it meaning "happy". It also accepts the word "DIE". Ever seen Andrew Smith do a video of it? He made "WTF", "GAY", and "MOO". Here's the link to it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMBO9tcxc84

Word Hunt[]

Your job is to find the letters that spell any word. Put the right letters into the Word Whammer, then press the letters with the blinking lights in order to spell the word. They would also let you rhyme words by replacing the first letter with another letter.

Test Mode[]

To do Test Mode on this toy, you need to hold down the left and right letter slots (with your fingers), switch it on, wait for the beep sound to occur, and you will be in this kind of mode. To do something in this mode with the audio content, press on the music button to switch to the white noise sound, for the 2nd time, it tests the lights, for the 3rd try, it does letter sounds that the narrator is saying by pressing any button, for the 4th time when pressed, it does all of the audio content (some of which were unused that didn't make it to the final) on this toy, and for the 5th time it shuts down.

Trivia[]

  • This toy has the same voice as the Leap's Phonics Library.
  • In the UK version, Professor Quigley is voiced by David Holt.
  • Some copies, mostly UK versions came with lowercase letter tiles.
  • Spelling these certain words; “TAD”, “DAD”, “MOM”, “CAT”, “DOG”, “HEN”, “PIG”, “POP”, and “BUG”, will activate a unique reaction from Tad.
  • Like the Fridge DJ, the Word Whammer regained recognition on Leap Day 2024 when the SiIvagunner channel uploaded rips that all were of the Word Whammer. Even after the event, the Word Whammer is still getting ripped on SiIvagunner and other channels like it. The channel VvvvvaVvvvvr (pronounced Vah-Ver) also made rips for a fictional upgraded four-slot variant of the Word Whammer comedically called "The Word Whammerer".
